Summer Edition

Statement from Superintendent Mosley

Gila Crossing Community School is striving to operate in a way that maintains the safety of students and staff, while continuing to provide the essential services related to educating our Community’s youth.

We are doing our best to clean and disinfect regularly and to maintain social distancing to help maintain a safe and healthy work environment.  If we become aware that a staff member is ill, they are to be sent home immediately.  If a positive test is received, other employees in direct contact with that individual are also sent home.  Testing protocols and symptom monitoring help ensure that individuals are negative before returning to work.  When school starts, we will follow similar guidelines for students.

Again, the health and safety of the Community, students and staff are always our top priority.

Statement on Re-Opening

Recently, Governor Ducey announced for public schools in Arizona that they cannot start in-person instruction until August 17. His announcement does allow public school districts to begin virtual learning (online), per their regular school calendar. For GCCS, our regularly scheduled start of school is Monday, August 3.

However, GCCS plans to move forward with opening school following guidance from Governor Lewis and the Education Standing Committee. We will update you as soon as we receive that guidance.

Chromebooks

We still need to collect all the issued Chromebooks to reconfigure them and then re-issue for home use. Students will have a classroom assigned Chromebook and one to use at home for their virtual learning.

Please call the Front Office to arrange for drop-off of your Chromebook. They can also be dropped off on the meal route with the buses on the meal routes.

Re-Opening Plan

While the exact date of school starting is still pending, understand that any instruction may be completely virtual until we are allowed to have students back on campus.

But, when we are allowed to have students and staff physically return to campus, we will implement the following schedule:

·       Maroon Team (half the students)

o   Mondays and Wednesdays – attending in person

o   Tuesdays and Thursdays – virtual learning

o   Friday – virtual learning

·       Gold Team (half the students)

o   Tuesdays and Thursdays – attending in person

o   Mondays and Wednesdays – virtual learning

o   Fridays – virtual learning

Bus Routes, Class Assignments, and most importantly, Team Assignments (Maroon or Gold) will be sent home by July 24. This will give us an opportunity to have as much time as possible to incorporate all up-to-date revisions in the opening plan.

All students in a household will be assigned to the same team, based on our current household data in our student information system (NASIS).

Meals on Wheels

We will continue our meal deliveries through Friday, July 31. We will let you know what the plan will be starting Monday, August 3.

Re-Enrollment Packets

Please turn in your re-enrollment packets ASAP to the buses. Beginning Tuesday July 7, you can also bring them into the front office window. Please note, only one family can be inside the office area at a time.
